What is the evidence to support these strategies?

What is the Evidence?

In Brief

Traditional medicine relies on “evidence based medicine”, which requires randomized controlled trials before accepting new treatments. This works well for drugs but is challenging for lifestyle interventions.

Metabolic Oncology and Health Optimization Medicine rely on “evidence informed medicine”, which integrates:

  • Biochemical mechanisms
  • Preclinical studies
  • Epidemiology
  • Case reports
  • Non-randomized clinical studies

The Evidence

There is abundant evidence that favorable changes in nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management are associated with lower cancer risk and improved outcomes. This includes:

  1. Two randomized trials showing improved outcomes in breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and a ketogenic diet
  2. One randomized trial showing lower recurrence risk in colorectal cancer patients who participated in a structured exercise program
